[Cynnabar] Weekly meeting minutes for 12/12/11

For clarification.the disbanding and being back was a joke. Master Midar at
the meeting was acting KS and was having fun. That is all.

Just in time for tonight's meeting, here are the weekly meeting minutes for
last week's meeting on 12/12/11. 

Announcements:

- Next business meeting will be the Holiday Gift Exchange on December 19th.

- We have been disbanded by the Acting Kingdom Seneschal. 

- We are back (by the grace of the Acting Kingdom Seneschal).

- We now may be called "Straumlandia". Investigation continues. Until this
is confirmed or denied, please continue to use "Barony of Cynnabar" until
further notice.

- There will be no December 26th meeting.

- Next Baronial business meeting will be on Jan. 9th.

- Cynnabar Holiday Gift Exchange (Dec 19th)

This will take place on Dec. 19th at the regular business meeting. We'll
keep the meeting short this night so we can get to the fun!

If you want to participate, bring a wrapped gift of around $10-ish. Note: No
crap stuff from Straum's basement.

This will in the "white elephant" format. 

-          All presents will be put in a pile in the middle.

-          Where people will draw numbers to see what order people go in. 

-          A person can either pick a new present from the pile and unwrap
it for everyone to see or they can "steal" a previously opened present from
another person. 

-          If a person's present is stolen, they may either steal from
another person or choose to open another gift.

-          Note: There is a 3 steal limit on any item. That means that it
may only be stolen 3 times total for the entire event. So the 3rd person to
steal an item cannot have it stolen from them again.

-          Note 2: The first person who goes does not get a chance to steal
at the beginning, so they will have one final chance at the very end to
steal.

Event and Demo Reports:

Grand Tournament - Fun! Good! Receipts have been turned in. Looking at about
a $800+ profit. Baroness Giovanna sent out a survey and have received 28
responses and will be compiling them into a report.  People had a good time.

Ann Arbor Christian School Demo - Went well. We were well received and they
appreciated everyone helping out.

Toys Tourney - Small but good.

Old Business:

Upcoming Baronial Events and Demos

Wassail (Dec 17th) -

We get keys on Friday and Steward will be picking up the decorations as
well.

A Day as St. Catherine's Cloister - Demystifying A&S Competitions (Feb. 4th)
-
Missed the Pale due to a snafu in the submission process. However we are
trying to get the word out as best as possible.

Terpsichore (April 14th) -

Dance Mistress is looking for instructors. Iron Peep contest on Friday.

St. Ceclia at the Tower (May 12th) - 

Nothing new to report.

Boy Scout Demo (Dec 12th) - 

Held same night as this meeting. Will have report at next meeting.

Other Old Business

New Fencing Gear Budget Proposal - 

A proposal for the Barony to purchase two new kid-sized fencing masks for
$170 ($85 each) +shipping has been made. The purpose is so that if there are
interested youth fencers we would have the equipment ready and available for
them to use/try. We already have some youth blades so those would not be
needed. These masks will also be steel, so smaller adult fencers would be
able to use them as well for adult fencing if needed. 

This was the third discussion at the meeting. No concerns or issues were
raised about this purchase and the group has approved this expenditure. 

Nicola's Wrapping and Donation fundraiser - 

We can volunteer to wrap gifts at Nicola's and possibly receive donations
for doing so. See Lady Amyon's e-mail for more details or contact her
directly. So far over $200 has been raised (final totals not done yet as
there is still more time to volunteer to wrap before Christmas). A proposal
was brought forth by Her Excellency Hanna (via Finn) that we might want to
consider using this money to tithe to the Kingdom Travel Fund since it has
been a while since the Barony as done so. Also suggested was that the Barony
should also match the funds raised by the gift wrapping as well to tithe. It
was decided that both are good ideas (no real objections) but will wait till
we have final totals (after the holidays) before making final approvals.

Youth Fighting investigation of what is needed - 

Mistress Claire had forms to start the free SCA youth background check.
Several people filled them out and Mistress Claire will send them all in to
the new Kingdom Seneschal for processing once he steps up. If you are
interested as well, please contact Mistress Claire for details.

Review of the state of the Baronial Ballista is to come..

Roller Derby Outing- 

Baroness Giovanna is looking to get together a possible fun outing to go see
some roller-derby!
