Lutr and I are leaving at 7:15.

I just checked the weather and it is supposed to be a high of F. 34
tomorrow, so I don't plan to bring armor.

I plan on being there between 6 and 7pm Friday evening...unless I need
to be there earlier because of the check in policy...but I don't expect
anyone else to be there any earlier then that

Given the number that have replied in the affirmative I think $15 would
be fine.

Since the rental is for two nights I was planning to stay over Saturday
night and head down for Sunday practice...but anyone who wants/needs to
go home Saturday night can certainly do so.

How much money do we need to bring to cover food and cabin rentals, etc.

The plan is to spend Friday night and leave Saturday in the
evening/night, so that we are all fresh and ready for the monthly
tournament on Sunday, yes?

Resending one last time as a reminder and per request so that
information is handy.

Please bring your own sleeping linens, and if you have them Lanterns as
there is no electricity.

Also...

I think we will plan to order pizzas in Friday night (so bring some cash
for that) And Aelfric will bring leftovers from Terpsichore lunch
Tavern...a nice hearty chicken stew

Then there will be food provided for Saturday morning (eggs, bacon,
pancakes, coffee) and Saturday Dinner (Burgers, Dogs, etc) on the grill.

Please bring stuff to snack on during the day and whatever you'd like to
drink (boozy and otherwise). I'll bring some basics for beverages, but I
can't anticipate all desires.

And the now for what we hope to accomplish:

Saturday after breakfast we will start having a discussion about several
topics of interest to the armoured fighting community. Such as (but not
at all limited to):

How do we get more people to practice consistently?
How do we get more new people involved in armoured fighting?
Is there and interest in providing more structure to the practice?

More melee specific:

What kind of unit do we want to be on the field?
Are we going to be a shield unit?
          A long weapon unit?
          A mix of both?
How can we be better in our marching formation out to the field in the
mornings?

And of course any issues that people what to bring up.

Please do RSVP to me if you have not already, and I am looking forward
to seeing you all there.

Hello all!

I have talked to most of you regarding this idea. But for the few that I
have not been able to here is the thought...

Take a weekend (Friday night thru Sunday morning) to have a fighters
retreat specifically to get together and strengthen friendships and
reinvigorate the unit as a unit. This will also be a time to discuss any
issues or concerns there are in the unit. Specifically in this case to
talk about practice attendance...what can we do to get more people to
practice regularly? Depending on weather there will probably at some
point be fighting...but that is not the main purpose of the retreat, the
real purpose here is to find a way to reenergize the unit so that we can
grow and be more effective.

The dates of March 25-27 have been chosen for the retreat. I know I had
said to many of you that we were looking at the first weekend in
March...but this was the only March date available.

The site will be at the Brighton Recreation Area, and a cabin that will
sleep 20 has been rented. Here is a general link to the website.

http://www.dnr.state.mi.us/parksandtrails/Details.aspx?id=438&type=SPRK

More specific directions to get to the cabin are:

I-96 TO EXIT 147, GO WEST 6 MILES TO CHILSON ROAD. DRIVE SOUTH 1.5 MILES
TO BISHOP LAKE ROAD.

And the basic facilities at the cabin are:

THIS CABIN CONSISTS OF ONE ROOM WHICH IS A SLEEPING ROOM, OUTDOOR FIRE
RING/PIT, GROUP CHARCOAL GRILL, DINING TABLE AND BENCHES.
CABIN CAPACITY IS 20 PEOPLE. CABIN HAS GAS HEAT. METHODS APPROVED FOR
TRANSPORTING GEAR TO LODGING IS AUTOMOBILE. NO LINENS PROVIDED. NO
ELECTRICAL SERVICE. WATER SOURCE IS OUTDOOR HAND-PUMP. NO AIR
CONDITIONING OR FANS.

Please plan to provide $10 or so to help cover the costs of rental and
some general food. We may order something in, or bring stuff to grill,
we'll have to see how the weather is looking and how many are coming
before we can have a really firm plan for that.

Also be aware that you will need to pay to get into the park as it is a
state park. If you know of someone that already has a state park pass
(which you can now get when you renew your vehicle registration for only
$10 BTW) it might be worthwhile to carpool.

I hope to see you all there, I think this will be a very good exercize
for us, and provide us a great opportunity to recapture the energy we
had just a few years ago.

Please RSVP to me so I have some idea how many are coming. And if you
know of anyone that would be interested in attending please let them,
and me, know so they can attend.
