This is a neat exhibit with a number of 16th C maps (and numerous 17th
& 18th C maps). Check it out if you get a chance! (It's in the south
side of the 2nd floor of the Graduate Library at UM.)

Please join us in the Stephen S. Clark today, Thursday May 10, from 4 pm to
6 pm
for the opening reception of the new exhibition:

An Imaginary Arctic: Speculative Cartography in the Search for the
Northwest Passage

The exhibit features maps from the Stephen S. Clark Library and the William
L. Clements Library.

The exhibit is curated by Melanie Langa, a student from Community High
School who has conducted research in cartography under the direction of
Mary Pedley, Assistant Curator of Maps at the Clements Library. This event
is the culmination of Melanie's research during the 2011/2012 academic
year, which focused upon cartographic depictions of the extreme northern
reaches of the North American continent.

The exhibit will continue through the summer, closing on Tuesday July 31,
2012.
