May 9 - *How to Run Gate by THL Aelfric and Mistress Giovanna.* The
Kingdom Exchequer and an experienced event steward explain how to serve as
head of this department of an event.
May 16 - SCA Bardic Basics with His Excellency Ermenrich Prepare yourself
for the Siege of Talonval's Bardic fun! Learn some beginning SCA Bardic
style songs to sing around the campfire.

Feast of Three Saints/ Baroness Kasha’s elevation to the Laurel. Beautiful
vigil site, outdoors, by a pond with a very Japanese pine tree. 15 members
of Cynnabar processed in with Kasha. Photos are appearing on

8 fencers at rapier practice Sunday, says Birke, including Darien and
Ursula who just moved here from Northshield (Au Claire Wisconsin). Another
couple has arrived from Ansteorra. A good practice.
*Upcoming Baronial Events and Demos Upcoming Baronial Events and Demos*
*St. Cecilia at the Tower (Sat April 30- Sun May 1, 2016)* St Paul United
Church of Christ, Saline, MI Mistress Jadwiga is event steward. Budget
$400. Break even 67 Adults.
· The needed Gate shifts are filling.
· We could use 1-2 more people signed up for Friday evening Set up
and Saturday evening Tear-down. Note that Teardown will happen while the
concert goes on. The expectation is to be done and out by 9:30 pm.
· Programs are getting finished.
· BAKESALE to support New Member attendance! See Gregoir with
questions.
*Celtic Festival (Saturday July 9, 2016)* Saline Michigan. Baron
Tairdelbach. Budget >$100 Sports drinks, snacks.
· Emails will soon appear to recruit any help.
· Daye is planning a *Fashion Show of Celtic Dress*. She has new
source material to reference, especially about the Orkney Hood find.
· Some event conflicts: Tiger Hunt in Hawkland Moor; Simple Day in
Indiana is Kingdom War Practice.
*50 Year Celebration (June 17- June 2016)* Hendricks County 4-H Fairgrounds
1600 Main St. Danville, IN. Check here each week for News of the Baronial
Presence at 50 Year.

· Birke is marketing GDoT to the rapier community.
· Grey is working to get enough atalatal sets to allow for a large
Atalatal Battle on the front lawn of the site.

· Ceara has asked the 2015 Steward for helping getting the site
booked. No one returns her calls. She is planning a site search in May if
no results.

*New Baronial Award Tokens* Ermenrich $200 *2ndt of 3 Meetings*
· New enameled Tokens for Award of the Elephant’s Heart. Created by
THL Kathrine Hatton Rames. They will have rings at the bottom to suspend
other awards if the owner wishes.
· The budget will cover about 100 award tokens.
· Design Pictures, Please!
*Royal Travel Fund Donation* Ermenrich, about $1000 *REVISED 4/25/16 $500
3rd of 3 Meetings*
· Their Highnesses told Ermenrich they need travel funds the most.
· Ermenrich *reduced* the requested amount to $500 to allow for a
similar donation to be discussed in the Autumn, assuming the treasury is up
to that.
· No objections or debate.
*New Business*
*New Cynnabar Pursuivant Candidate*: Eadræd of Alforde * 1st of 3
Meetings. *
· Eadraed (Michael Rice) has applied for the position. You may
recall him as herald for some or all of recent courts, starting at the New
Comers Meeting in the fall.
· He had declarations of support from Court Heralds, Book Heralds
and Field Heralds in the room.
· He and Johannes will discuss the needs of the office and
reporting requirements.
*Reimburse Birke $23.85* for snacks provided to Rapier lists at Grand Day
of Tournaments 2015.
· This receipt was turned in after GDoT, but did not get paid. It
was to be part of the GDoT budget, according to Johannes.
· Passed with some discussion, but without objection.
· It was noted that this does not set a precedent for reimbursing
expenses after they are incurred.

· Ms Melisant said Muslin, please. They have replaced the scissors.
· Shopping Plan is: See if I can find the 40-5-% off Coupon. Buy
all the muslin. Send receipt to Ilse. Take Melisant out for a cocktail and

*Terpsichore at the Tower Report (March 5, 2016) *
· Attendance: 136 adults, 9 children

· Ceara is creating an “after action” report.
*Baronial Trailer* Budget $3500-$3950 Black, 5’x12’x6’ single axle
covered, lights, hitch kit.
· *The price of the trailer did not include plywood lining for the
body. *This is in the planning stage and that surface will also be covered
with vinyl flooring material to make it extra sturdy and resistant to bumps
and dings.
· *Sir Dag is reported to be working on designs for Decals for the
outside.* A Tower? An Elephant? Our web address in case people are
overcome with the need to know more about the Barony after seeing this
chariot on the road.
· *This may need to be budgeted separately, depending on how far
the current funding will go.*
· *Registration & Insurance:* Daye got State Registration and
plates done. Kay will send to SCA Inc for insurance.
*Stickers with the Baronial Populace Badge* (and maybe name?) $60-100 Kay
· It is the season to put stickers on our stuff so it returns to
Cynnabar.
· The Charging Elephant got the most approval, and since this is
the biggest meeting in months, I will go with that as the will of the
People.
· I asked Gavriil if he can get me a Vector image of the art.

*Terpsichore at the Tower 2016. *Interested in being Steward for this
event? Please create your bids for May Presentation. There is training
available as shadow deputies to Giovanna in the Grand Day of Tournaments
team. See her.
The Pennsic University Book closes this week. Get your class descriptions
in by May 1, 2016. That is Sunday.
*Other Group Discussion*
*New T Shirt Order*? Denelle is willing to gather info about styles and
prices available online. Hoodies and Totes have been suggested as
options. The Barony owns the silk screens, and we can print as many as we
want.
*Officer Reports*
Knight Marshal (Gregor) – Regularly scheduled practices are continuing to
happen - but as of this past Sunday have officially moved back outside to
Island Park. For the sake of accessibility - I shall be updating the
marshals page of cynnabar.org with an improved map of practice locations in
the next few days.
Cynnabar's Fighter Fix-it Night is coming up on May 11th and held as my
residence in Ann Arbor. I encourage anyone with an interest in fighting
(armored or rapier) to show and work on arms and armor. I will have lot of
tools and materials on hand and will be providing food and beverage for
attendees. A Facebook event page has been setup so I encourage interested
folks to turn towards it for more information as it become available.
I'm still looking for candidates to take up the mantle of Knights Marshal
when I step down late this summer. I encourage anyone with an interest in
armored combat and service to the Barony to contact me.
Fencing Marshal (William & Birke) – Birke has accepted the post of Deputy
and Reporting Marshall for Cynnabar.
Rapier and heavy melee practice is coming back to the Barony of Cynnabar
this summer! They start at 7 pm and go until 9 pm (or dark) at WCC
Community Park in Ypsilanti, MI on Wednesday evenings.
May 25th and June 29th, and we’ll do a mixture of games and drills. Want
to further sharpen up your ability to move as a unit, have better
endurance, and bandy around questions about command tactics? Come to the
other melee practice Wednesdays (May 18, June 1, 8, 15, July 6, 13, maybe
20).
Min A&S (Aeffe) – My quarterly is in. Thanks for reporting on what you are
doing in the Arts and Sciences. Send me MORE!
Archery Marshal (Godaeth) – Things happen to foil practice! May 1 is our
next date. “It Takes a Child” had good archery support from the Barony. Thank
you.
· More events are coming: (Battle of Inland Seas May 13-15,
Pentemere Archer’s College May 21, Siege of Talonvale, June 3-5) all have
archery. Grey and Godaeth are creating a shoot named? Mr. Pig Goes to
Market. (please correct me!)
· Eric Ericson is about to publish the Combat Archery Handbook.
Herald (Johannes) – The new Pursuivent process starts with Eadraed stating
he is interested. The quarterly report went in.
We have 2 Herald’s Nights left this summer: May 2 and June 6. No meeting
July, August, or September due to holidays and Pennsic.
The New Dragon Herald will be Master Conrad Mailander.
(Bad Notes) Kasha and Ermenrich are doing a workshop at Heraldry Night May
2. ( please correct! Kay)
Chatelaine (Daye) – Her report was the first! Spring revel had 9 new
members and 12 [people used the Gold Key to get dressed. Soon she will
print brochures and social cards. Vista Print, an online service was
suggested for good prices and discounts, but Kink’s is just down the road…
If she needs funding for printing she will bring it to a meeting. It will
be under $50 and could be done in one.
Webminister (Aaron) – The NEW contact form is up, and it works. Please test
it, and report what happens. If you do not get a message when you send one,
check your span filter. [Kay stops typing and goes to look… Why do you
think this takes 3 hours to type?] If you get a “No Reply” report please
tell Aaron so he can check to see if the message sent. Thanks!
Exchequer (Ilse) –

Chronicler (Gavriil) – Kay Notes that we have had two issues of the Citadel
come out this month! Please write your thoughts, research, stories or
experiences, and send to Gavriil. He cannot put out a newsletter without
content.
Seneschal (Kay) – I have a quarterly due in May. We have meetings.
Deputy Seneschal (Ceara) Ceara is working on a list of Service
Opportunities for our website. It will be a place where people can go to
learn how they can be involved or help make things happen.
Kay Says: I was SO happy to see everyone Monday night. The turnout is
directly related to the Workshop, I believe. Relating social change to our
medieval world is a thorny topic. And yet we have 3 times the attendance of
the average workshop. This suggests (on Wednesday as I finish these notes)
that we need some Hot Topics for workshops or discussions. Do YOU have one?
Sent it to Hannah. She will be happy to schedule it. If you want a
sounding board to test your idea, I am happy to listen.

Our Event Progress: Battle of Inland Seas May 13-15, Pentemere Archer’s
College May 21, Siege of Talonvale, June 3-5.
Ermenrich said: Melee Season is here! Talonvale has called on the Barony
of Andelcrag to relieve Our oppression! I pointed out that feeding knights
is expensive, and we have a new one. On the Feast of St Petrac we will
meet to see if they can lift our Seige of Talonvale.
Kasha said: How can we make the posts of officers and champions more
rewarding? Please thank them. [and several people did just that.]
Please support Genoveva in her elevation at Coronation, on May 7 in
Shadowed Stars.
