Oyez! Oyez! After a brief summer hiatus, the Barony will resume its First
Monday of the month Heralds and Scribes Night on Monday, October 3. ? With
their continued gracious hospitality, we will once again gather at the home
of Baron Tairdelbach and Baroness Hannah (near Whittaker and Huron River
Drive) in Ypsilanti Township.
So plan to join us for a night of heraldic discussion and consultation, or
to work on any of your scribal / illumination projects with others from the
Barony in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Here?s the chance to learn more
about developing an SCA name or personal device/arms; or come learn about
what it takes to make award scrolls for the Kingdom. Even if you don't have
heraldic or scribal things to discuss -- you're still welcome to come to
hang out and enjoy good company.
And as an added bonus, Ursula Georges, an expert in historical names
research, has kindly offered to present a walk-through (?how to?) on
Kingdom-level commentary using OSCAR [the SCA?s Online Commentary and
Response System]. If this is something you are interested in, she asks that
you bring a laptop (if you have one) and take a minute or two to

about 6:30 pm until 10:30 pm. If you need directions or their address,

Hello, Barony!

As you know, we have been invited to give a demo at the Ann Arbor Christian
School on December 8 at 7:00 pm. As part of the demo, we will be singing
some medieval/Renaissance Christmas carols.

Everyone who would like to sing is invited to join us. No musical
experience is necessary, but it is helpful if you are old enough to read
and focus for the entire rehearsal. :)

Rehearsals will be held at my apartment on six evenings in November and
early December. We will select our repertoire the first time we meet
(November 3). I'm planning to make my own arrangements of the songs we'll
use, so you do not need to purchase any music. However, if you already own
a copy of *The Shorter New Oxford Book of Carols

please bring it with you. The rehearsal schedule is located in this folder

where I will also upload PDFs of scores and other helpful materials.

These rehearsals are primarily for preparing for the performance at the
School, but if we enjoy ourselves, we may investigate other opportunities

   - what voice part you usually sing (soprano, alto, tenor, or bass), if
   you know
   - your favorite pre-1600 Christmas carol, if you have one
   - whether you can attend the performance on December 8

I may be able to schedule some time to work on the pieces with you

It's that time. I am in need of volunteers to assist with running gate. Most shifts will be only 1 hour, with some exceptions.

I need:

First shift (9 - 11): 2 people for Waivers, 3 for Sign in, 1 Cashier, 1 or 2 Greeters (nice to have, but not required)
Second shift (11 - 12): 2 for Sign in & Waivers, 1 Cashier (11 - 1)
Third shift (12 - 1): 1 for Sign in & Waivers
Last shift: (1 - 3): 1 for Sign in & Waivers


Job Descriptions:
Waivers - assisting guests with filling out the proper waiver
Sign In - assisting guests with the event sign in sheets, will also write up the cashier receipt (it's really simple)
Cashier - Using the cashier receipt, determine amounts to be received from the guests and take their money (MUAHAHAHAHAHA! Stand and Deliver......)
Greeters - Greet guests, and direct them to either the waiver table or Sign In table.

The Exchequer will annually in August restock the University of Michigan
Student Organization Account with $250, until usage indicates we change the
amount, frequency or account in which funds are kept.

money is spent on a monthly basis.  The Student Organization Account record
is very vague; just dates of postings and UM financial codes.  No date of
room or equipment use.

closed after 12/23.  We will not be able to use Pierpont on 12/26.

Will there be a gift exchange?  When?  Where?  Much discussion?

Tristan was in town for a bit and he has changed the signers on the Post
Office Box at the Stadium station to include Kay. He says, ?Hi!? to
everyone.

Roads are a mess in Saline.  Best route to Grand Day will be in the back
way off Maple road and through the school parking lots. Ann Arbor Saline is
completely closed at one spot right now.

Does anyone know where Grey can use a Vinyl Cutter?  Print shops were
suggested.

One minor correction regarding the coins.

The obverse is the arms of the barony, with the inscription reading
"CYNNABAR CIVITA[S]", Latin for "city of Cynnabar", and has my mint mark
(an ermine tail) in the inscription.
The reverse of the types shown at the meeting feature a large E, and the
inscription is "ERMENRICH: BARO", Latin for "Ermenrich, Baron".
A second reverse die will be made for Kasha, in a similar style (with the
K).  Half will be struck with each reverse type.

They were based off of billon deniers of Amedeus VI of Savoy (1343-83):

Also, striking sessions will occur (we're about 1/3 of the way done)!

I still have positions open to assist with running gate. Most shifts will be only 1 hour, with some exceptions.

First shift (9 - 11): 2 people for Waivers, 1 for Sign in, 1 Cashier, 1 or 2 Greeters (nice to have, but not required)


Second shift (11 - 12): 2 for Sign in & Waivers, 1 Cashier (11 - 1)

Last shift: (1 - 3): Filled


Job Descriptions:
Waivers - assisting guests with filling out the proper waiver
Sign In - assisting guests with the event sign in sheets, will also write up the cashier receipt (it's really simple)

Pre-Meeting Workshop - Good Books for Medievalists lead by Kay

After the long summer break -- book club returns! The summer reading is  
for "The Return of Martin Guerre", by Natalie Zemon. See a Synopsis at  
Amazon. Come and discuss the ways this non-fiction book illuminates life in  
the late Middle Ages. How is Martin?s life (and his doppelgangers) like our  
own mobile society?  How does mobility destroy the patterns of the Middle  
Ages and make way for a change? Have we chances to reinvent ourselves like  
Martin?

Book Club has been suggested to be held quarterly on the last Monday  
meeting of the month. A different topic will be chosen each time. Please  
pass along suggestions to Mistress Kay or Lady Daye as you have them.

Workshops are held in the same location as the Baronial Business meetings  
from 6:30 pm until approx 7:25 pm about an hour before the meeting begins.

1)      Thanks to everyone that has volunteered already!


2)      I still have positions open to assist with running gate. Most shifts will be only 1 hour, with some exceptions.

Still Open

First shift (9 - 11) (3 people): 2 people for Waivers, 1 Cashier

Second shift (11 - 12) (3 people) : 2 for Sign in & Waivers, 1 Cashier (11 - 1)

-        All spots open


Third shift (12 - 1): Filled


Last shift: (1 - 3): Filled


Job Descriptions:
Waivers - assisting guests with filling out the proper waiver
Sign In - assisting guests with the event sign in sheets, will also write up the cashier receipt (it's really simple)

Subject: [Cynnabar] Closing of the Range this Sunday, Oct. 30! 1-5 p.m.

Announcing ? "Closing of the Range," the symbolic ?last archery practice?
at Forester Dillon?s archery range!  This Sunday October 30, 1-5p.m.  Garb
is *not* required ? there will be loaner gear and lessons for beginners.


Schedule:


1pm: 3D walk-through begins.  This is a walk-through course of several 3-D
wild game foam targets including *fearsome zombies*!  The 3-D Tournament
will consist of three rounds cumulative scores vs. the targets: high score
wins feast gear to help eat all that wild game you just took!


2pm:  Royal Rounds.  For all SCA archers, a standard Royal Rounds shoot,
with four rounds of 6 arrows at 20, 30, 40 yards, then a ?timed round? of
as many arrows that can be loosed in 30 seconds.  High score at RRs will
win a Roman coin pendant.


3pm/ TBA:  Forester Dillon?s Clout Tournament.  Come learn your limits at a
50+ yard shoot!  Forester Dillon is contributing some of his hand-woven
trim for a prize.


?Grand Slam? Prize:  The high score of the 3D + RR + Clout will win a $20
JoAnn?s gift card in addition.


4pm/ TBA: Beginners Tournament:  NO target over 20 yards in distance!  A
combination of Bull?s Eye, ?Castle Window,? and standard 5-color target.  Two
rounds of six arrows at each target: high score wins a Viking arrow
pendant-charm.


5pm/ At Their Excellencies? pleasure:  Awarding of prizes ? Recognition and
thanks to our outgoing Archery Champion and announcement of succeeding
Archery Champion.

PLEASE NOTE!  This activity will NOT be cancelled due to weather issues
except active thunderstorms.  However: *Court* *may* be cancelled and
postponed.
