I have problems when I look in the Cynnabar calendar for events the Barony
is holding.

Is there a reason the calendar is not kept up to date?  I have tried to
find Baronial events such as Grand Day, Wassail, and others and they are
not listed.

It looks up to date to me. I see everything listed. Fighter practices,
events, pretty much everything but we'll sail but we haven't come up with a
final proposal on that yet.

Grand Day of Tournaments is missing. I viewed it using Chrome on Android. 
Looks like practices are listed OK.

Sorry about that, thanks for pointing it out! I try to remember to add
events to the Baronial calendar when I update the events page, but it looks
like I just forgot to do that for Grand Day and Ruby Jubilee. It's all set

Great question!

I want to rotate meeting locations between Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, since
most of the baronial population is in or close to these cities, and going
to a meeting in the other one on a weeknight can be a hassle.   I
anticipate the meeting location moving between Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti a
couple of times per year.

*Wassail, December 16th 2017, Chelsea fairgrounds,* *Albina Gherardi
(Bina), $400 *Cost is same as last year $400, will cover site fee,
insurance (for alcohol), decorations (including elephants!).  The site not
available on the 9th , Dec 16th  does not conflict with Yule in Toledo.
Deposit due in October ($150?)  Second of three meetings.

*Potential new Ann Arbor location for business meetings.*  Fairfax
recommends the Journey of Faith church, located at 1900 Manchester Rd, Ann
Arbor, MI (Near Washtenaw and E Stadium).  This site has a kitchen
available, and the room we could use is about three times the size of the
upstairs room in Sidetrack.  The site has a real elevator inside, and 30 or
40 parking spots available in church parking lot.  There is a bus stop a
two minute walk away.

We propose to offer the following arrangement in exchange for a meeting
site for September ? December:

?         $250 payment to purchase supplies for hygiene bags (toilet paper,
toothbrushes, etc)for needy folks

?         One pre-meeting workshop per month dedicated to filling bags with
supplies

?         Target of 150 bags filled by the Barony with supplies provided by
the church by the end of the year

?         Collect supplies (non-perishable food, hygiene supplies, school
supplies) at Cook?s Symposium and Grand Day of Tournaments

Lots of people went to Pennsic!  They took classes and taught them.  Next
report schedule is mid-October, think about what you want to send up the
chain.  Anyone can report!


*Chronicler (Godhit)* ?

July Citadel was published  Sept 15th is next deadline, Their Excellencies
have provided a lovely theme, Events in Cynnabar, contacting various events
in Cynnabar to get information regarding publicizing upcoming events, as
well as upcoming Spring events.  Other things will be published, like court
reports at Pennsic, St Cynnabarius spared the barony during recent
tumultuous weather, etc.


*Exchequer (Jadwiga)* ?

Regarding being able to sign checks ? This Friday we are meeting at the
bank with the signers, so hopefully after Friday we will able to sign
checks.  Afterward,

Turned in July financial report with set of questions.

We have as of July statement $13,024.64.  Next month?s report will be more
accurate once we have access to the account.

At Pennsic Jadwiga took the how to use paypal class.


*Herald (Eadraed)* ?

With Aeffe?s invitation, pre-meeting workshop was mini herald?s night!  Due
to Pennsic, there was no herald?s night this month, and there will not be
one in September due to Labor day.  Derian and Ursula will be hosting in
October.

We are continuing to register names and badges, large influx of submissions
at Pennsic will slow down the process at kingdom and society as usual.  At
Pennsic, Ursula taught a class on African names, Eadraed took a number of
heraldry related classes.  Eadraed volunteered at a number of events,
including KW baronial champion?s tournament, and east kingdom ladies of the
rose tournament.


*Knight Marshal (Zygmunt)* ?

The change to the new summer site continues to be very positive. We have
about 8-10 people in armour every Thursday.  We're still looking for a
winter practice site. Sir Hjorleif has a lead on one, and I hope to hear
soon about it.  I don't know how the Baronial Levy performed at War, as I
was busy with the royal retinue. Perhaps Sirs Gregoire or Jasen can
comment, or someone else who was there.

(HE Ermenrich) ? Baronial unit was put into many ?there is a problem, go
fix it!? scenarios, and fought well.  The Pentamere shade fly was well used
by both the armoured and rapier fighters.



*Fencing Marshal (William) *?

Practices have been happening, but have been fairly small since Pennsic.
Practice will be canceled for Labor Day weekend.



*Chatelaine (Edonea)* ?

No report as of meeting time.

We have a website, it has not required any maintenance recently.

Excited about Friday, new meeting site looks like a good fit for us.
Quarterly report submitted and received with compliments.  We have a number
of events coming up that need event stewards, please consider volunteering!


*Baron and Baroness (Kasha and Ermenrich)* ?

Pennsic went well!  Many events coming up soon in the barony, first cook?s
symposium, followed by GDoT, both will require event staff.  Cook?s
symposium will need volunteers during setup and teardown, also volunteers
will be needed at gate.  Keep doing what you do, send in award
recommendations, especially for GDoT, we will have royalty, so get those
awards recs IN!  We are still a barony.

*Announcements** & Group Discussion*



*Announcement/Reminder:  Wassail & 2018 events:  *It's time to start
thinking about Wassail!  We need to reserve the site at Chelsea if we want
it.  We need a date and a reservation.  Also Terpsichore and St. Cecilia
need to be placed on the calendar.  Wassail is a good event to try out
being an event steward.



Now is the time to start working on your prizes for Grand Day of
Tournaments!  If you are going to make something by hand, start now!
If you can get pictures of your donation, they can be very effective
publicity for the event.



Calontir Trim ? Minimum order of 400m now available, they could do the
elephant + tower + livery easily!  Monetary details forthcoming,
official proposal will happen then.

The business meeting is on!  However, Godhit has been called away this
afternoon and likely will not be able to make it to today's pre-meeting
workshop.  Therefore we have decided to cancel her presentation and
reschedule it for a future date.  For anyone who would like to show up
during this timeslot anyway we can socialize, plan, scheme, gossip, and eat
cookies...

Just a reminder: we are asked to be respectful of the group that uses the
building before us by not showing up more than a few minutes early and by
using the West entrance.  Also, please do not enter the building until
Derian arrives.

elephants!).  The site not available on the 9th , Dec 16th  does not
conflict with Yule in Toledo.  Deposit due in October ($150?)



Bad news: Chelsea fairgrounds wants much more money, $750, plus a deposit.
We are looking at other sites.  Grange is not available due to being
previously booked (and it is a bit small).  Looking at Wayne county
fairgrounds, it is in a shared zip code.  Date is scheduled (Dec 16th),
$450 for the day, plus a $200 refundable deposit.  We can still have our
Yule fire.


Given the site change, let?s talk about this for a couple more meetings.
First of three meetings



*Potential new Ann Arbor location for business meetings.*  Fairfax
recommends the Journey of Faith church, located at 1900 Manchester Rd, Ann
Arbor, MI (Near Washtenaw and E Stadium).  This site has a kitchen
available, and the room we could use is about three times the size of the
upstairs room in Sidetrack.  The site has a real elevator inside, and 30 or
40 parking spots available in church parking lot.  There is a bus stop a
two minute walk away.

We propose to offer the following arrangement in exchange for a meeting
site for September ? December:

?         $250 payment to purchase supplies for hygiene bags (toilet paper,
toothbrushes, etc) for needy folks

?         One pre-meeting workshop per month dedicated to filling bags with
supplies

?         Target of 150 bags filled by the Barony with supplies provided by
the church by the end of the year

?         Collect supplies (non-perishable food, hygiene supplies, school
supplies) at Cook?s Symposium and Grand Day of Tournaments

*Lunch Tavern at Grand Day of Tournaments* ? *$600, Lady Ilse*, $6 a
head, break
even 100 meals.  Similar menu to last year.  $500 original proposal, bumped
up to $600 by group, may need to plan to feed more folks since we will have
Royalty at the event.   First of three meetings.



*New event.  Ancient Imaginings: An Exhibition of Modern Photography - $500
Lady Daye, November 2018, Riverside Art Center, Ypsilanti MI.  *Month long
display of SCA photography, plus a wine and cheese reception.  $200 fee for
the show, $275 for wine + cheese + napkins, $25 for Informational PR cards
to stay at the Riverside Art Center for the month.  Per exchequer handbook,
the group cannot spend funds on wine, except for small amounts for
cooking.  Could we arrange extra hours for the weekend of GDoT?  Should not
plan the have the gala too close to GDoT.  First of three meetings



*School year has started again!* Lady Harriet of Cynnabar. Fest of fall was
last Friday, thank you to everyone who contributed time and stuff.  We got
48 new signups! We would like to hold a small demo for the new students.
Anderson room is already booked for September 24th, 12pm-4pm.  This is
coronation weekend, following weekend is Vikings come home.  Pizza and
videos provided by the student group account.  Look for an announcement on
Facebook.



*Ypsi GLOW, community unity event / parade / block party, Friday October
27th.*  Lady Edona ? do we want to do a demo at this event?  We could do a
parade + table with information.  There are also workshops every Sunday

*Announcement/Reminder:  Wassail & 2018 events:  *It's time to start
thinking about Wassail!  We need to reserve the site at Chelsea if we want
it.  We need a date and a reservation.  Also Terpsichore and St. Cecilia
need to be placed on the calendar.  Wassail is a good event to try out
being an event steward.


Now is the time to start working on your prizes for Grand Day of
Tournaments!  If you are going to make something by hand, start now!  If
you can get pictures of your donation, they can be very effective publicity
for the event.

Forester Godhit: Closing of the range is probably not happening this year
due to a highly compressed schedule in the fall.   Citadel deadline is
coming up!  Please send things to Forester Godhit!  Due date is September
15th.

Jadwiga is expecting!  Due date is April 5th.  She will not be running St
Cecilia!  She will be happy to help, but likely cannot attend.  If no one
steps forward we will take a year off.

I have wonderful news! Cook?s Symposium is already looking to be a
wonderful event. Baroness Hannah and her staff has put in a lot of time and
effort into making it another pearl in the Cynnabar coronet. In addition to
the wonderful classes and events (see the website for more details), Her
Highness Vukasin will be attending Cook?s Symposium!

What can you do? First make sure to update any recommendations you have
submitted. We do not know if a Royal Court will occur, but let?s make sure
there are awards in the system if She does decide to hold Court. Also, be
looking for opportunities to serve as guards or retainers during the day.

*Upcoming Baronial Events and Demos*



*Cook?s Symposium October 13, 14 & 15, 2017 *St Paul?s Church of Christ,
Saline MI. *Baroness Hannah, Steward. Budget $525; breakeven 66 attendees*

   - Classes are almost filled in. There are 28!
   - Website continually gets updated with any other class details as we
   have them.
   - Still working with Aelfric on the site access
   - Need volunteers for site set up and clean up -- please see Tairdelbach
   for information
   - Gate shifts are FILLED -- but we need some kitchen help, please
   volunteer!
   - We have a vendor coming from Minnesota with COOL POTS to cook in the
   fire. Check out the event page on FB for photos
   - Hotel block closes 9/28
   - Working on sign up for Friday night lecture. Please be reminded that
   we'd like to keep this open to out of town guests, first. The Library has
   agreed to do another lecture at a later date for locals if this generates
   that much interest!
   - Ad was in the Pale
   - Promoting on Facebook all month (see 9/18 bacon post!)

*Grand Day of Tournaments- Nov 4, 2017 *Liberty School, Saline MI.*
Mistress Genoveva Steward. Budget $2260; breakeven 174 (may
change)            *

?         *Site is reserved. *Deposit is not required because we have been
diligent at paying on time.  They will bill us after the event.

?         Staff meeting occurred!  Everything is going well, setup and
teardown volunteers needed!  Please let mistress Genoveva know.  Another
staff meeting will occur in October.

?         There will be a vigil!  Parking lot has been resurfaced and
reorganized; more parking spots in front of the building.

?         School has confirmed we have three meeting rooms, for royalty /
scribal, meetings, and A&S

*Canton Library Demo*

                Demo went well.  Roughly two dozen SCA volunteers showed
up, yay!  Lots of cool displays and combat!  We seemed to have a steady
flow of traffic through the demo.



*Officer vacancies to be filled:*

*New Business* (includes items potentially requiring budget outlays)

*Cynnabar Ruby Jubilee: * *Baroness Kasha, $6,250. September 14th-16th,
2018.*

?         Break-even is 250; 209 adults if everyone camps, 313 adults if
everyone daytrips Saturday.  Fewer if people rent cabins.

?         This event is not planned to make money.  Currently expecting
$1000 loss based on attendance projections.

(Bina), $850 (including $200 refundable deposit) *Cost is same as last year
$400, will cover site fee, insurance (for alcohol), decorations (including
elephants!).  The site not available on the 9th, Dec 16th  does not
conflict with Yule in Toledo.  Deposit due in October ($150?)


Bad news: Chelsea fairgrounds wants much more money, $750, plus a deposit.
  We are looking at Wayne county fairgrounds as a site, it is in a shared
zip code.  Date is scheduled (Dec 16th), $450 for the day, plus a $200
refundable deposit.  We can still have our Yule fire.


Given the site change, let?s talk about this for a couple more meetings.

*Lunch Tavern at Grand Day of Tournaments* ? *$600, Lady Ilse*, $6 a
head, break
even 100 meals.  Similar menu to last year.  $500 original proposal, bumped
up to $600 by group, may need to plan to feed more folks since we will have
Royalty at the event.   Second of three meetings.



*New event.  Ancient Imaginings: An Exhibition of Modern Photography - $500
Lady Daye, November 2018, Riverside Art Center, Ypsilanti MI.  *Month long
display of SCA photography, plus a wine and cheese reception (date TBD).
$200 fee for the show, $275 for wine + cheese + napkins, $25 for
Informational PR cards to stay at the Riverside Art Center for the month.
Per exchequer handbook, the group cannot spend funds on wine, except for
small amounts for cooking.  Could we arrange extra hours for the weekend of
GDoT?  Should not plan the have the gala too close to GDoT.  Shipping
details to be figured out.  Second of three meetings



*School year has started again!* Lady Harriet of Cynnabar. Fest of fall was
last Friday, thank you to everyone who contributed time and stuff.  We got
48 new signups! We would like to hold a small demo for the new students.
October 1st, 12pm-4pm. This is Vikings come home weekend.  Pizza and videos
provided by the student group account.  Look for an announcement on
Facebook.



*Ypsi GLOW, community unity event / parade / block party, Friday October
27th.*  Lady Edona ? do we want to do a demo at this event?  We could do a
parade + table with information.  There are also workshops every Sunday
afternoon in October 11am-3pm.  Follow-up meeting with event organizer
scheduled.

Terpsichore and St. Cecilia if we are going to hold these events!


Now is the time to start working on your prizes for Grand Day of
Tournaments!  If you are going to make something by hand, start now!  If
you can get pictures of your donation, they can be very effective publicity
for the event.

Forester Godhit: Closing of the range is probably not happening this year
due to a highly compressed schedule in the fall.

HRH has posted a number of things regarding events during Their reign.  A&S
faires are undergoing significant changes; check out the new rules in the
Pale or the Midrealm gazette.

I am organizing the Gate/Troll staff for this year's Grand Day of Tournaments, and am in need of some volunteers.

This year we will be setting Gate/Troll like we did last year, a table for waiver collection, a sign in table, and a cashier's table.

Hi all,

I'm collecting all of the event proposals that have been approved by the
Barony over the last five years or so.

I've created a public google drive folder with the Cynnabar Exchequer
midrealm google apps account, and making information such as past proposals
available. The hope is to give future event stewards more information when
writing up their proposals. This public folder can be found here:

proactively that will help me out. :)
