Cynnabar Baronial Meeting 11 November 2021 8:30pm, 15 in attendance
*Announcements:*
Ø 12th Night 2022- from the FaceBook group: It was proposed, voted on
and passed. Northwoods will host an OUTDOOR 12th Night on 8 Jan 2022.
Tentatively 10 AM to 8 PM. Baron Max (Northwoods) will be autocrat. Her
Excellency has already proposed a Hot Cocoa Challenge. We will have
multiple fire pits - anyone want to do a lunch tavern? Sell s’more kits and
sausages? In Germany we learned to roast cheese over the fire and eat it on
a slice of bread. Volunteers and more ideas appreciated.
Ø The Pentamere Archers College at Demmer Center on the MSU campus has
been postponed until Spring, when the per-person cost for use will be more
reasonable. With the Center currently closed, cost per person was $35,
which is above normal site fees and would exclude many who would be
interested in participating.
Ø Val Day has been cancelled for 2022.
Ø Candelmas has been rescheduled to April 2022, and will be held outside.
*Officer reports:*
*Exchequer:* Voting confirmed acceptance of Lady Diamante as incoming
Exchequer. Many thanks to Lady Diamante for agreeing to become Baronial
Exchequer! The transition is in process, and should be complete soon.
*Herald:* A Baronial Court was held at Fall Revel. A folding
bookcase/stand big enough to hold a regular-size binder, scroll covers,
and possibly a basket is needed for behind the thrones. Note: Throckmorton
has one that he will donate – Thank you Throckmorton!!
*Chatelaine:* We've had a couple people show interest recently with
practices and other activities. I am currently not participating very much
as I still do not feel comfortable attending indoor activities. It is my
current intent that I won't be attending anything for the rest of the year.
It would be nice to find someone who is willing to welcome new people who
are interested in attending in person. It is my intent to step down and
would like to have found a replacement by Spring Revel (if there is one.)
In the meantime I plan to start looking for a deputy. Please let me know if
you have any questions! Thank you, Ceara
*Social Media:* I have been Social Media Officer for almost three years,
and I have truly enjoyed this position. I am looking for a deputy who is
interested in learning the job and taking over in January. Please contact
me if you are interested or have any questions. We have the most activity
on the official Facebook page and group(s). I update the calendar monthly,
which syncs to the website. Our Instagram has a few posts per month. We
have YouTube and Pinterest, but those are rarely used. - YIS Beth
*Arts & Sciences*: Nothing big going on. We had a small bean count at the
Fall Revel. Thank you to Morwen and Diamante for entering. No classes
lately though I plan to put out a call for Thursday classes as we enter the
winter months. I'm also planning to step down soon, so I'm looking for a
replacement. My Deputy has recently taken on a job that has him traveling a
lot and while he's still willing to take on the position if need be, I
would prefer to not have to put that on him if we can find someone else to
fill the role. - YIS, Ulfrun Barefooted
*Rapier*: Rapier practice has been ongoing since we resumed in July. Of
our former regulars, three have moved away, three are continuing to pass on
in-person practices due to Covid, and we have had one
mostly-regular attendee. Warder Ze'ev came to one practice in August, and
we had a first-timer at another practice in August, who has not yet
returned. Going forward, I plan to continue holding practice when one or
more fencers wishes to attend. No injuries, equipment issues, or
incidents to report. - Ld. Thomas Throckmorton
*Armored*: *Current*: Practices, including a monthly tournament, have
been case-by-case cancelled for lack of attendance recently. It is helpful
if fighters turn on notifications for the Baronial group or add me on FB
Messenger or email even so they can respond if they'll be in attendance.
Beth posts the event page every week with reminders and I do a special post
to get a head count (usually on Wednesdays) to give people an idea of
what's happening. It's also a good idea to pay attention in case we have
rule changes or the KEM has put out something relevant. I drive from 45-60
minutes away and need to know relatively early on Thursdays who is planning
on being there so I can make the call for our other out of towners so they
don't make the trip and get disappointed. Our newer folks also deserve some
consistency in scheduling so they don't think we're flakey. If it's a
matter of fighting indoors or if we don't want to fight during the winter,
we can talk about that, but it is frustrating planning and asking and
organizing just to hear crickets. The Kingdom is finally ready to launch
the new authorization database soon, so I may be contacting you privately
if you're on my roster. I'm open to being friends on FB or to hear that you
have a new email so I can double check before my Domesday report in
December.
*Future*: There has been interest in an armoring night, and the loaner gear
is in desperate need of maintenance. If practice attendance continues to
flag, I could organize Thursday's as a chance to do both, with folks
bringing their own projects or helping me overhaul the loaner gear. We
could also spar or work on out-of-kit training if there is interest. There
will be a regional archery practice in January where folks can get
authorized for combat archery, get training, or otherwise investigate the
combat archery community. It would be great to field some archers for
Pennsic next year in Baronial colors. – Jorun
*Chronicler: * As always, I am in need of topics and content for the
Citadel. Topics could include: review of an event you have attended
recently, whether virtual or in-person; description of an A&S project or
competition you created/ participated in lately; or an article on a topic
of research you are pursuing. – Gabriela
*Archery**: * Baronial practice was held at Forester Dillon’s range Sunday
Sept. 12 at 2pm. The first hour was general practice and new person
instruction, and 3-4pm was the Royal Rounds.
Congratulations to Caryn of Cynnabar, the latest person to pass the Archery
Marshal's written test !!
The populace of our Great Realm is being asked to report for the new
Martial Activities Audit: "Disciplines with No Authorizations: For these
martial activities, we are asking that populace report whether they have
participated in these activities in the year prior to the shutdown, and/or
after the restart. This is, of course, not going to capture the number of
participants who do not report in for this audit, but we are hoping to
establish at least a baseline of average participation in these activities."
[Source, Midrealm Martial Audit 2021]. Historically those involved in
archery activities usually get vastly undercounted because archery
activities are NOT "authorized disciplines." Lady Celina may ask for a
general census of the Baronial area. If so, I will ask all of you to "chime
in" so we can be counted. - Godhit
*New Business:*
Ø Wassail Proposal – Voted and passed: Saturday, 4 December 2021, from
4pm – 11pm. Potluck at People’s Presbyterian in Milan (same location as
fight practice/ meeting). A request has been made for waiver to allow
alcohol at the church for this event. The proposal is in the Baronial
Google drive under Event Proposals. Current Kingdom rules regarding food
apply.
*Their Excellencies:*
Ø Attended Coronation in Illinois. Very glad we went, despite the drive,
as only 9 of 18 Baronies attended. We have purchased a day shade to use as
our Baronial Presence in the future.
Ø Fall Revel had good attendance, especially many whom We have not seen in
person in quite a while, despite cold, damp weather. Baronial Court was
held. HE Jorun stepped down as Baronial Armored Champion after service to
2 sets of Baronial Leaders; a new Armored Champion will step up at Spring
Revel. Thank you again to Leo for being Event Steward!
Ø HE Óláfr attended the Northwoods shoot, and had a marvelous day seeing
people and shooting his new bow.
Ø TE are attending RUM, where Their Majesties and Their Highnesses will
hold a Royal Court with the Investiture of Sargeant Kjell Smiðr and The
Honorable Lady Isabel Taylor to Baron and Baroness of Donnershafen, the
elevation of Lady Aveline to Laurel, and other orders of business.
Ø This is the 2 year anniversary of TE Malachy and Óláfr’s elevation to
Baron and Baron of Cynnabar.
*The next business meeting* will be December 9, 2021 at 8:30 pm at
Peoples Presbyterian Church in Milan (same as fight practice). Until the
wifi situation can be resolved, we will not be adding a zoom component,
since it doesn’t work (intermittent sound, etc.). Conversation to improve
the wifi situation has begun, I will provide updates as things progress.
YIS, Nezkha
