Greetings all!
I am just now sitting down and wrapping my head around this weekend! What
an adventure! This is my first time Stewarding a Grand Day of Tournaments
and can officially say that is was a success! While I don't know the exact
numbers, I hear the event made more than $900! (just considering gate and
budget but not a final number by any means!)
As always I can never express how thankful I am to live in such an amazing
barony and how blessed we are to have the support of our members and some
from afar!
This event runs off of nearly 75 different volunteer positions including
everything from setting up a table to running the event itself. If you know
someone who volunteered at this event, please take a moment of your time to
say thanks for their service.
Because of everyone, Grand Day was the most chill event I attended this
year (and I was the event steward! LOL) We had small blips, but they were
cared for efficiently with little effect on the event.
My goal was to make this event as stress-free to the volunteers as possible
by being a "yes!" person (as much as possible.) I feel like things went
well and I hope the staff feels the same!
There is no way for me to thank everyone individually who volunteered as
many assisted staff heads for different areas of Grand Day. If they aren't
mentioned here (or even if they are) please feel free to shout them out
below!
In no particular order, I would like to thank the following:
Dennis Watson and Jenny Watson for being our most gracious hosts for this
event. I saw smiles on them the whole day and I was so grateful for the
care of all attending royals, the members of our barony, and the overall
welcoming of the general populace. Thank you for being such a light in what
we do!
Anne Stevenson for her time and cheerleading me through this every step of
the way. And for her cool-headedness to get things done either through set
up or tear down. I was able to get into garb 15 minutes before gate
officially opened because we completed the setup and the doors were locked
by 6:55 PM due to efficient teardown!
Angela Benton She is a gate rockstar. This is a particular part of running
events that I dread. Thankfully she is on top of her game and I cannot give
her enough credit for the work she does as the head of Gate for events!
Lucinda Dreadnought For being our welcome wagon and taking her time to be
ready for any person in need of Hospitality.
John Wilkerson for stepping up on short notice as head herald for our
event. I heard we had more than enough heralds come forth to assist and
that they even turned some away! I really appreciate your assistance on
this!
Jason Jeppesen for taking it all and making the armored part of this event
easy for me! I honestly don't know what goes into being the Armored Marshal
for this event and never had to worry for a minute because he was on top of
it practically before I even talked to him about the position!
Thomas J. Dowds Who had a cool and chill way of saying, "It's all good! I
promise it will be fine." and actually bringing that to life the day of the
event. Like the armored marshal, I don't know the fine details about Rapier
but never had to worry because it was always under control! Aside from
Rapier, Thomas also was the one who masterminded the maps by scale down to
the foot. It was very helpful in understanding how site would function
without having to set a foot in the building!
Renee Marie Charbonneau Metzner who knows fighterfood like the back of her
hand! She took care of the feeding and hydration of our fighters which is
appreciated by all young and old at the event this year!
Liz Calhoun who was familiar with the food trucks and assisted their timely
arrival and departure with expertise! I appreciated her taking charge of
coordinating the needs of our vendors with the fairground staff.
Wanda Zajączkowa for her care of our vendors this year. It was something
new to her and I think she handled it like a boss! I was able to talk to
and thank each merchant and every single one of them seem appreciative of
her time and assistance for our event!
Beth Lynn who totally stepped up when I stepped out! I completely forgot an
important part of our quest at home on the printer and she swooped into
save the day. She did a great job at making sure our questers were cared
for and even assisted if things got too tough!
AnneMarie for her coordination of A&S activities. Due to event logistics, I
was very thankful for her ability to roll with the flow when her layout had
to be flopped and adjusted due to slight complications with the layout.
Not staff heads, but people I really want to extend a special thanks to:
Linda Duvall and Melanie Schuessler Bond for being the amazing MoL heads at
this event. They've mastered this well and I feel it should be recognized
as it is so essential to how our marshalled activities operate!
Isabel Taylor Who showed up with her A game for gambling this year!
And finally to all of the people who volunteered at gate, setup, teardown,
heralding, list tables, gambling table, marshaling, retaining, guarding,
and more, thank you because many hands make light work, which means we all
get a chance to enjoy the event!
Lastly, as many of you know, I had a huge change in my life this year that
really threw me for a loop. The event staff really knowing their stuff and
handling it like a pro was part of the reason I was really able to manage
such a successful Grand Day this year. However, having a little one can
keep you on the go and busy without the added business of being a
volunteer. So I would like to thank the following:
Anne Stevenson, Beth Lynn, Lucinda Dreadnought, Wanda Zajączkowa, and Leia
(who is a minor so I'm not going to mention her last name.)
All of these amazing people not only came and volunteered from 7am until
7pm with their own activities, but also took the time to assist with the
caring of Jelly Bean (my little one at the event for people unfamiliar.) I
literally could not have done what I was able to do at the event without
your help!
One last time, Thank you to all of you! I am humbled by the kindness and
support of everyone who came together to make this the amazing day it was!
Yours in Service, THL Ceara inghean Mhuirgheasa
