I highly recommend that you read the letter and FAQ from the board.
http://sca.org/BOD/announcements/settlement.html

It will address your questions the best anyone can at this time instead of
trying to retell it again and muddle something in a translation.

I have a couple of questions.

I have not spent hours on end reading everything I can about this whole
mess, but from what I understand a settlement was reached last Oct.. Dose
anyone know why we are hearing about the need for money at the 11th hour?
Did the BOD just find out that the insurance company were not going to hold
up their end?

Also there was mention of 18% from Gulf Wars and Pennsic. Was this profits
from 2011, 2010? My thought is any profit would be in the kingdoms bank
account that hosted the war of which they are already getting 18% of?

I may have missed something, if anyone could shed light on this, that would
be great.

There is moral value to this question of giving away "other people's" money,
and it deserves an answer.

Mine answer is:
First, agreed that it isn't OUR money in the sense of each member having x
percent ownership.

Second, it IS our money in the sense that everyone contributed some part of
their time and effort and care -- and cash -- to bring our coffers to their
present level. Each person who contributed has his or her own concept of the
purpose of that gathering, and therefore has a sense of what is the right
and proper way to use it.

Let us remember that our service may have been given in Cynnabar, but it was
given TO the SCA. It is an old tradition in Cynnabar that we have always
striven to serve and set an example not merely to Pentamere or to Midrealm
but to the entire SCA. While so doing, we have taken pride in our local
group and its capabilities, not excepting financial.

I think those, including myself, who wish to give more than asked are doing
so for the reasons given, and I also think that those who do not agree also
have very good arguments. I have read them carefully and respect them.

I still prefer going above and beyond ($1200 for the settlement, separated
from and in addition to the shade-fly and travel fund), sooner not later.

Hello,

OK. I was not going to even read, have an opinion or anything on this
matter, but those that want to give more than was asked are simply not
realizing that the Society has gone though all of the books and figured how
much money each group has and calculated what percentage they need to cover
what the lawsuit wants. Just give the $300 and some from the Doomsday
Report they are asking for.

Those that want to give MORE than what is asked, I feel are really free with
other people money. If those of you that want to give more, were in a
lawsuit and you had to give your own money, would you give extra just
because you had it? Wait to see if they need more. I am sure they will be
back if they do and we can do our part to help then..

I also have to generally agree with Randy and Monique and of course Uillec.

YIS,
Ilse
