Hi all,

 

*puts the Finn hat on* - I agree that it would be a good thing to have the
Kingdom keep the money that is coming back to us. 

 

*puts the Seneschal hat on* - While I'm sure that most people in the Barony
would agree with your and Finn's opinion that we should let the Kingdom keep
the money that is earmarked to come back to the Barony, we do, however have
a specific financial policy that we do need to follow (the 3 meeting
discussion/approval process). This will be more than $50 so it can't go
under the "Seneschal discussion" section. And it's not an emergency so there
is no valid reason to circumvent our normal process.


Therefore what I recommend (will do) is that at next business meeting, we
bring up for approval that the monies we get back from Kingdom from the
settlement be given back to Kingdom. We run that thru our normal
business/approval process and done (if it gets approved of course).

 

I know that it's extra paper/leg work to accept the money and then give it
back. However, it is the right process to follow. And in the end, the same
result is achieved. So in short, everyone can feel free to discuss the
merits about giving the money back here on the e-mail list, but we will not
be deciding anything "official" here.

So I bring this up on the list because we do not have a meeting between now
and the dead line.  I will give a summary of the issue, my thoughts, and
then post what Baroness Giovanna posted on the Pentamere page so you can
read it in full if you wish.

 

Basically, does the Barony want 70% of the money it had to pay out for the
lawsuit returned to it or does it want the kingdom to keep it to make up for
shortfalls in the budget.  We need to let Kingdom know by March 9.

 

My thoughts

1)  As far as I know the Barony is doing well financially.  We don't need
the money.

2)  We gave it not expecting to get it back

3)  I have faith that the Kingdom Exchequer knows what she is talking about.


 

So we should let Kingdom keep it.  Now if I am wrong on points 1-3, I may
change my mind, but that is where I stand.  Thoughts?

Unto the groups of the Middle Kingdom does Bantiarna Briana Morgan of the
Valley and the members of the Midrealm Financial Committee send greetings,

As you know the SCA Inc, has settled with the insurance company and received
a portion of the funds back. In general terms the populace was told
two-thirds. When the Middle Kingdom received the check and compared to the
amount paid it equated to 70 percent returned.

The Financial Committee is willing to return 70 percent of the amount paid
to each group, but are running into a financial constraint.

Due to Kingdom Level events not making as much as was budgeted and the
Pennsic Profit half of its expected income, the Kingdom is currently
experiencing a budgetary shortfall in comparison to budgeted expenses. To
offset the shortfall from the lower Pennsic Profit share, we ask each group
consider if they could afford to have less than the 70 percent returned.
Please respond to exchequer at midrealm.org with your group's decision no later
than 9 March 2013.

Any non-response will be taken as a no and the returned funds will be at the
70 percent rate.
