*The Silver Lining in the Dark Ages, or, How Pennies Saved Civilization*
*by Lady Godaeth*
It was once thought by historians of the late Roman Empire that with
Rome's "fall" in 476, the non-Byzantine European economy ended. Of course
it didn't! Surviving some admittedly dark times, the memory of the great
Roman denarius lived in as "deniers" and "denaros" and our own (English)
penny still symbolized by "1d." Come hear a VERY brief survey of Western
European numismatic history, 476 to about 1016, with a few common and
inexpensive early medieval coins to pass around.

*April 18th*
*Pre-Meeting Workshop - Kumihimo Braiding*
*by Lady Terryl*
Come and try your hand at the Japanese art of Kumohimo braiding. Learn some
history of the art and techniques. Class will be hands-on, so make sure you
arrive on time to get your materials! There should be tools and supplies
enough for at least 12 people to braid.

*April 25th*
*Trans/Intersex/Third Gender in SCA discussion *
*Lead by Draco*
This workshop will be two parts. The first part will be a half hour power
point presentation discussing what Transgender/sexual, Intersex, and Third
Gender are in modern era, some examples of these in medieval times, and how
focusing on minorities (racial, sexual, and gender) can improve recruitment
and retention in the SCA. The second half hour will be a discussion on the
themes and ideas presented in the first portion.
