I think there are two separate discussions going on
1. Donations vs. Site fees (to be done in another thread)
2. Finances and compensating people vs. site fees.
In my opinion, compensating people does not have to be absolutely linked to
site fees. An event can be designed to have $X site fee, compensate Y people
and still make a profit. Can that profit be bigger if the Y people were not
compensated? Sure. However, that all should be included in the event
proposal and known to the group when deciding to support the event.
I think some people are thinking that the site fees are higher JUST to
compensate the Y people. This is not necessarily the case. It may be in some
situations, but I don't think it's the case with Terp. If Terp makes a ton
of money, and the autocrat decides to propose an event budget that will net
a lower profit to either help everyone out or to draw more people, and the
group agrees, we're good. I don't think any is suggesting we raise the site
fee just to compensate the musicians. If that is a suggestion, I'm
personally against it.
